At the end of 1,001 nights, and 1,000 stories, Scheherazade finally told the king that she had no more tales to tell him. During the 1,001 nights, the king had fallen in love with Scheherazade, sparing her life permanently and making her his queen.

After hearing the bad news of his wife infidelity, Shahrayar kills his wife and all of the slaves who were involved. This makes Shahrayar loses all trust in women. He wants to be sure his next wife will not cheat on him again. So, he gets married every night and kills his wife before the sunrise.

The reason we think of the story as one of the true-born Arabian Nights is that many of the characters in the tale of Aladdin are Arabian Muslims with Arabic names. But Aladdin is Chinese … at least, he is if you go back to the known origins of the story.

Yes, Arabian Nights is considered a great piece of classical literature and like many other great pieces it has organic origins and cannot be considered as the isolated work of a single author.

Shahrayar has his Queen killed and he personally kills all his slave girls. He then swears to marry a new woman each night and have her killed the next day, so she will not be able to betray him. Shahrazad tells her father, the Vizier, that she wants to marry the king and try to save more women from being killed.

It is what he decided to do after he found his first wife cheating on him. However, Shahrazad’s ingenious plan is to tell King Shahriyar a story that is so exciting and interesting that he puts off killing her so he can hear the next part.

But the lesson in the Tale of the Merchant and His Wife teaches that men should beat their wives to control them. In the context of the story by itself, men can beat women to force obedience, but in the larger context of The Thousand and One Nights, the lesson is that women will not listen even if beaten.

Why does King Yunan decide to kill Duban? Because the vizier spoke ill of him to change the King’s mind about the doctor.

It takes some persuasion, but the king eventually believes his vizier. He reasons that if Duban was powerful enough to heal him, he could certainly kill him in the same way. King Yunan wants to punish Duban for this treachery, even though the physician has done nothing treacherous yet.

He has also shown a degree of sympathy towards the Fanalis, as well as Sinbad’s ill mother. Yunan has shown that he distrusts Sinbad to the extent that he is scared of him due to him being too close to a “perfect king vessel”.

The curse prevents Sinbad from staying on land for more than one day; if he tarries the talisman will choke him to death.
