From the mid-1950s to the late 1980s, the world of animation in the United States experienced a severe quality drought. Television animation was cheaply and quickly produced and loaded with errors.

The quality of American television animation continued to decline into the 1980s due to over-excessive merchandising. Many ‘popular’ cartoons of the era were little more than product commercials solely created to get parents to buy toys for the their children.

Tom & Jerry has some violence. For example: There’s frequent animated violence. Characters repeatedly crash into each other as well as walls and buildings.

Some researchers believe that high level of violence in cartoons can make children more aggressive. Their studies also found that young children tend to mimic the negative behavior they see on television.
