The idea dates at least to the early Confucian times (551–479 BCE), according to Rushworth Kidder, who identifies the concept appearing prominently in Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, and “the rest of the world’s major religions”.

Three Ways You’re Teaching the Golden Rule Wrong

1. Do unto others so they will do something good back unto you.
2. Do unto others precisely what you want them to do unto you.
3. Do unto others before they do unto you.

The golden rule is a moral principle which denotes that you should treat others the way you want to be treated yourself. For example, the golden rule suggests that if you would like people to treat you with respect, then you should make sure to treat them with respect too.

Judaism: “What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow-man. This is the entire Law, all the rest is commentary” (Talmud, Shabbat 3id – 16th century BC). Do not unto others that which would cause you pain if done to you” (Mahabharata 5, 1517 – 15th century BC).

Treat others as you want them to treat you. Most of us know the Golden Rule, even if we do not practice it as often as we should. This rule encourages us to treat others with the dignity and respect humanity deserves.

The golden rule states “​Do not touch, alter, move, or transfer any object at the. crime scene unless it is properly marked, measured, sketched and/or. photographed​.”

A six-step, structured approach to incident investigation (Fig 1) helps to ensure that all the causes are uncovered and addressed by appropriate actions.

• Step 1 – Immediate action.
• Step 2 – Plan the investigation.
• Step 3 – Data collection.
• Step 4 – Data analysis.
• Step 5 – Corrective actions.
• Step 6 – Reporting.

Applied to the criminal realm, a criminal investigation refers to the process of collecting information (or evidence) about a crime in order to: (1) determine if a crime has been committed; (2) identify the perpetrator; (3) apprehend the perpetrator; and (4) provide evidence to support a conviction in court.

In the performance of his duties, the investigator must seek to establish the six (6) cardinal points of investigation, namely: what specific offense has been committed; how the offense was committed; who committed it; where the offense was committed; when it was committed; and why it was committed.
