The word ‘sunesis’ is one of three Hebrew words that stand for the english word ‘wisdom’ There are three words that are translated wisdom: ‘Sophiya’, ‘Sunesis’ and ‘Phronesis’ Note I’m going to use the words ‘wisdom’ and ‘knowledge’ interchangeably in onwards

Techne means craftsmanship or art The intent of the word techne is the making or doing as opposed to the understanding It is the root of ‘technique’, ‘technical’ and various other derivatives Aristotle viewed techne as an imperfect human representation of nature

Phronesis has ‘both an intellectual virtue and an ethical virtue’ (Eikeland, 2008, p 53)

What are the four parts of Phronesis? experience, guts, moral virtue, and the capacity to deliberate well

One becomes virtuous by living an ethical life, following a moral code which respects others, treats others with kindness and compassion, and is not engaging in corrupt, criminal or malicious actions A virtuous person will have high principles of conduct, language and communication

Aristotle argues that what separates human beings from the other animals is the human reason So the good life is one in which a person cultivates and exercises their rational faculties by, for instance, engaging in scientific inquiry, philosophical discussion, artistic creation, or legislation

Lewis, “is doing the right thing, even when no one is looking” Integrity is a foundational moral virtue, and the bedrock upon which good character is built Acting with integrity means understanding, accepting, and choosing to live in accordance with one’s principles, which will include honesty, fairness, and decency

Integrity is an important skill that an employer will look for when assessing employee evaluations An individual who does their job with integrity can gain a reputation as being dependable If you show integrity, you also exemplify honesty, independence, approachability, and pride in your work
