Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death, usually during sleep, of a seemingly healthy baby less than a year old. SIDS is sometimes known as crib death because the infants often die in their cribs.

Hamlet references “the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” (line 66) and the “sea of troubles” (line 67) to show how horrible and unfair he thinks life is. Hamlet thinks of death as “sleep” (lines 68, 73–74) but worries about dreams, or what might happen after death.

Hamlet’s grief and misery is such that he frequently longs for death to end his suffering, but he fears that if he commits suicide, he will be consigned to eternal suffering in hell because of the Christian religion’s prohibition of suicide. In his famous “To be or not to be” soliloquy (III.

To die, to sleep, No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to.. . . To die, to sleep; To sleep, per- chance to dream. . . . For in that sleep of death what dreams may come, When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause. . . .”

It is spoken by Helena, who is in love with Demetrius (although Demetrius is in love with Hermia). Helena means that true love doesn’t care all that much about what the beloved looks like. This is why Cupid, the god of love, is portrayed as blind.

Hamlet decides to use this “dream of passion” to test the dreamlike message of the ghost, and determine if Claudius is really guilty by observing his response to a play.

That Hamlet is having bad dreams shows that he is out of balance; he is overwhelmed by both grief and a desire for a revenge — though repelled that it is his uncle and mother’s husband who must be the recipient of the revenge — coupled with his revulsion at the actions of his mother.

Hamlet has a reason for his inaction due to lack of evidence. Hamlet delays killing Claudius again in Act 3 Scene 3, throughout the soliloquy’s Hamlet makes up a lot of excuses to not killing Claudius. In this soliloquy religion is his excuse.
