We call upon all governments to ensure free compulsory education for every child all over the world. We call upon all governments to fight against terrorism and violence, to protect children from brutality and harm.

On March 10, 1922, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was arrested on charges of sedition by British officials in Bombay (now Mumbai), India. He was sentenced to six years in prison for his involvement in protesting the British colonial government in India. A little more than a year later, Gandhi was assassinated.

Malala’s central message is that no matter what the obstacles — whether they be economic, cultural or social — everybody is entitled to a quality education as a human right. In the words of the young activist: “Education is education.

Malala Yousafzia and Mahatma Gandhi are both good examples of Christian leaders. Both were natural born leaders who continued to think of others rather than themselves first. They fought for peoples rights to freedom and even in the face of threats to their lives they continued to argue for what they believed in.

Yousafzai was born on 12 July 1997 in the Swat District of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, into a lower-middle-class family. She is the daughter of Ziauddin Yousafzai and Tor Pekai Yousafzai. Her family is Sunni Muslim of Pashtun ethnicity, belonging to the Yusufzai tribe.

It is at this point in the narrative that Malala undergoes a change in identity. She realizes that she must think beyond the goal of merely being the top student in the class. Instead, she has to fight for her own right and the right of all women to have an education despite the threats of the Taliban.

And every day I fight to ensure all girls receive 12 years of free, safe, quality education. I travel to many countries to meet girls fighting poverty, wars, child marriage and gender discrimination to go to school. Malala Fund is working so that their stories, like mine, can be heard around the world.

As an activist, advocate for girls’ education, champion of human rights and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala’s words and actions offer inspiration and hope to people all over the world. Malala Yousafzai’s story made international headlines in 2012 when, at just 15 years old, she was shot in the head by the Taliban for advocating girls’ education. Surviving the attack, she continues her efforts to ensure girls around the world have access to quality education.

She is a role model to many girls who have been victimized by similar circumstances, giving them courage and light to follow. Her determination, helps her followers to believe in her and her vision. Most importantly, Malala believes that ideas, values and beliefs cannot be forced, commanded or enforced upon others.
