Vesper Martini

“Shaken, not stirred” is a catchphrase of Ian Fleming’s fictional British Secret Service agent James Bond and describes his preference for the preparation of his martini cocktail.

In Fleming’s novels, Bond has a total of 19 Gin Martinis. So, yes, Bond did enjoy a Gin Martini or two, it just seems that vodka is a little sexier for the big screen. There are also many instances in both mediums in which the drink is certainly a Martini, but it is unclear whether vodka or gin is used.

And those laws are presented in black and white: If the cocktail contains only alcohol-based ingredients (spirits, vermouths, liqueurs) it should be stirred; if it contains any non-alcoholic ingredients (citrus juice, eggs, cream, fresh fruit or herbs), it should be shaken.

A shaken cocktail gives your drink a more ice-cold temperature than what is attainable by stirring in a mixing glass. These drinks get a better balance of flavor and alcohol when there is more diluting involved.

The main differences between Rye vs Bourbon are: The rye mash used in rye whiskey has a spicy tone and dry taste, whereas the corn mash which is used in bourbon has a sweeter taste and full-bodied flavor. Rye whiskey is more intense, whereas bourbon is sweet and easier to be tolerated.

Whiskey: Both rye and bourbon offer different flavor profiles. Bourbon is slightly sweeter and rounder, whereas rye introduces a peppery bite. Either way, you’ll want something high in proof (over 100) as this extra alcohol will stand up to the dilution from melting ice.
