What is EBCS Subaru?

HomeArticles, FAQWhat is EBCS Subaru?

The Cobb 3 port EBCS “electronic boost control solenoid” is one of the first mods we recommend for any 02-07 WRX or STI. While the factory EBCS works ok at stock boost pressure it is not able to keep up at higher boost pressures. Works with both internal and external waste gates for stock or aftermarket turbos.

Q. Do you need a tune for Cobb EBCS?

Remember! You MUST properly tune for the installation of a 3-port EBCS. Using an off-the-shelf tune will result in overboosting.

Q. What is a Cobb EBCS?

The COBB Tuning 3-Port BCS is engineered to be the ultimate electronic boost control device for modern turbocharged applications, designed with outstanding boost control, engineered for consistent performance and extended service life and configured for easy installation.

Q. What does GrimmSpeed boost controller do?

The GrimmSpeed MBC allows you to raise OEM boost levels in a quick and efficient manner through superior boost range and ultra-fine resolution (. 25 PSI/click). Adding the MBC to your car will result in quicker spool up, quicker response and rock-solid boost control.

Q. What does an EBCS do?

The 3 Port EBCS is a solenoid that does just what the name implies. It controls boost pressure. In order to run more boost than what the spring is rated at, the boost controller will divert pressure and keep the wastegate closed until the desired boost level is reached.

Q. What does a 3 port boost controller do?

The 3-port systems works by interrupting the boost signal traveling from the turbo to the wastegate. That boost is redirected back into the turbo inlet and re-ingested by the turbo using our machined adapter.

Q. Do you need a tune for boost solenoid?

You must tune for this hardware! Using stock or off-the-shelf EM with a 3-port solenoid installed in interrupt mode will result in overboosting! The benefits of this upgrade are faster spool, ability to hold higher boost, and better control over boost.

Q. Does a boost controller need a tune?

NOTE: You MUST run a boost gauge to properly tune the Manual Boost Controller. Raising your boost level may destroy your engine if you raise it too high without proper tuning. Our boost controller works by interrupting the pressure seen by the wastegate.

Q. How does the GrimmSpeed AOS work?

A: The GrimmSpeed™ AOS allows you to separate the vapors from both the heads and the crankcase. Others on the market only allow you to separate the vapors from the head. A: When the oil vapors are mixed into the intake system, it effectively lowers the octane which can cause detonation.

Q. Can you bypass a boost solenoid?

Registered. You can bypass your factory boost controller solenoid but you really should retune to make its working properly.

Q. What does the boost solenoid do?

In most turbo applications the boost solenoid is used to bleed boost pressure off the hose that actuates the wastegate actuator. This makes for a more responsive turbo and for much better boost control, not to mention higher boost levels are possible with proper tuning.

Q. Does STI need AOS?

No, you won’t. To reduce the influence of these blow-by gasses, you need a catch can or an air oil separator (AOS) that will remove them from the system. Since the injectors are in the head, these blow-by gases will coat the valves and cause build up over time. This will drastically reduce performance.
