“At” is used when you are at the top, bottom or end of something; at a specific address; at a general location; and at a point. “In” is used in a space, small vehicle, water, neighborhood, city and country.

Since the object of a preposition is a noun or a pronoun, writers occasionally confuse the object of the preposition with the subject of a sentence. The subject of a sentence is NEVER in the prepositional phrase.

A: A prepositional phrase can be the subject, object, or complement of a verb. This is a common construction in English, and often the verb is a form of “be,” as in your example. (With a linking verb like “be,” a subject complement occupies the position of the object.)

A prepositional phrase may be placed between the subject and verb. Sometimes, however, a prepositional phrase inserted between the subject and verb makes agreement more difficult. Car is the singular subject. Was is the singular helping verb which agrees with car.

When in doubt, try this simple trick: If you can replace the word with “he”’ or “’she,” use who. If you can replace it with “him” or “her,” use whom. Who should be used to refer to the subject of a sentence. Whom should be used to refer to the object of a verb or preposition.

When you are determining whether you should use who or that, keep these simple guidelines in mind: Who is always used to refer to people. That is always used when you are talking about an object. That can also be used when you are talking about a class or type of person, such as a team.
