A concave is a surface or a line that is curved inward. In geometry, it is a polygon with at least one interior angle greater than 180°.

The front side of a spoon is curved inwards. Such a surface is called concave. The inside part of a bowl is also an example of a concave surface. Concave mirrors are used in various medical practices.

Convex and concave are two words that describe a line or shape, often in mathematics, science, or in relation to eyeglasses and mirrors. While convex means to bend or protrude outwards, concave is the opposite and means to bend inwards.

A lens refracts light and forms an image. A concave lens is thicker at the edges than it is in the middle. This causes rays of light to diverge. The light forms a virtual image that is right-side up and smaller than the object.

Concave lenses are used on flashlights to magnify the light produced by the bulb. The light falls on the concave side of the lens, and the rays diverge on the other side, thereby increasing the apparent radius of the light source and providing a wider beam.
