What’s a Composite Score? Composite scores represent small sets of data points that are highly related to one another, both conceptually and statistically. Combining and presenting these items as a single score reduces the potential for information overload.

You will also receive what is referred to as a composite score. This is basically the total score you received on all required sections, and it is calculated simply by adding together your Math Test section score with your Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Test section score. Your composite score ranges from 400-1600.

Is a 18 a good ACT score? It places you in the bottom 38th percentile nationally out of the 2 million test takers of the ACT entrance exam. The score indicates you’ve done a below average job answering the questions on the English, Math, Reading and Science sections of the test.

Once you have your scaled score for both the Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections, you just add them together to get your overall SAT composite score. For example, if you scored a 710 in Math and 640 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, your composite score would be 710+640 = 1350.

For the most part, colleges are only looking at your best composite SAT score or a composite score that represents a combination of your best scores on each section of the test. You can submit both old and new SAT scores for the time being, but colleges won’t superscore between the two versions of the test.

Your Composite score is the average of the four subject scores from one ACT test attempt. Your superscore is the average of your best scores from each subject from multiple test attempts.

Is a 21 ACT Score (50th Percentile) Good? A 21 ACT score is a little bit better than the average score of 20.8. Because of this, a 21 is a commonly accepted score at many schools, but it may not make you competitive at selective schools.

Is a 17 a good ACT score? It places you in the bottom 31st percentile nationally out of the 2 million test takers of the ACT entrance exam. The score indicates you’ve done a well below average job answering the questions on the English, Math, Reading and Science sections of the test.

Is a 1430 a good SAT score? Yes, with a score of 1430 you’re amongst the best students in the country. It places you in the top 97th percentile nationally out of the 1.7 million test takers of the SAT entrance exam.

COMPOSITE SCORES – MOS/JOB ASSIGNMENTS. Composite Scores are sometimes referred to as “line scores”, “aptitude area scores”, or “MOS scores”. These scores are derived by adding different combinations of the sub test standard scores.

A composite score can be obtained from multiplying each individual scores with their respective factor loading scores and then added up all products together to get a weighted average score.

Your SAT percentile tells you what percentage of students you scored the same as or better than. So for example, if you got a 60th percentile score, you’ve scored better than 60% of all test takers! The mean, or average, SAT composite score is 1051.

That is not to say, though, that your section scores are never reviewed. This simply means that in many cases, a composite score will be used for initial screenings, while section scores and other details are reviewed later. When do section scores matter?

A student’s percentile rank represents the percentage of students whose score is equal to or lower than their score. For example, if a student’s score is in the 75th percentile, 75% of a comparison group achieved scores at or below that student’s score.

The final component of the SAT, the SAT Essay, is optional. For both the Math Test and the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Test, you will receive a section score ranging from 200-800. These scores are calculated from your performance on the subtests in each section.
