Why are pet rabbits illegal in Queensland? Rabbits are Australia’s most destructive agricultural and environmental introduced animal pest, costing up to $1 billion annually. They cause severe land degradation and soil erosion and threaten the survival of many rare and endangered native species.

1. Vaquita. The vaquita is both the smallest and the most endangered marine mammal in the world. It has been classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN since 1996, and in 2018, there were only around 6 to 22 vaquitas left.

Although conservation efforts have shown promise, poaching, habitat loss and other factors have endangered many species of rhinoceros. For instance, fewer than 80 Sumatran rhinos remain and no more than 67 Javan rhinos exist, meaning they could all be gone by 2050.
