Some adjectives are used as nouns to describe groups of people. For example, when we refer to sick people, we can simply say the sick. The adjective takes the place of the noun and the noun that the adjective modifies is removed.

Noun, to begin with, are words that name a person, a place, a thing or even an idea. Examples of which are person, place, thing, idea and many more. Adjective, on the other hand, are words basically used to describe or modify the noun. It usually precedes a noun in the sentence although in some cases it goes after it.

In English, many adjectives, including past participles, can come before or after nouns. But in many cases I don’t know what the difference is between an adjective placed before the noun and after the noun. Adjectives are normally placed before nouns and this is known as the modifier or attributive position.

There is no general rule for making adjectives. We know they are adjectives usually by what they do (their function) in a sentence. However, some word endings (suffixes) are typical of adjectives.

‘Sweet’ has been adopted in Australian and New Zealand slang from the late 19th century to mean that everything is fine and in order, ‘She’s sweet’. In the early 20th century ‘sweet’ was adopted as an intensive in phrases meaning nothing at all, ‘sweet nothing’, as well as a parting in the late evening, ‘sweet dreams’.

The word sweet dates back to before the 12th century. The etymology of the word can be derived from Middle English swete, from Old English swEte; a kin to Old High German suozi sweet.

In the 1960’s and 1970’s, “cool” started to be used but it also morphed into the word “groovy” which also is not used today amongst popular slang. In the 1980’s the word “wicked” or “sweet” was used alongside or instead of “cool.” In the 1990’s, something cool was also “dope” or “bad” (bad meaning good.)

A man calling another man “sweet” is a compliment; a man calling a woman “sweet” is a compliment; a man calling an agender or genderqueer individual “sweet” is a compliment…

It means she thinks you are nice. In other words you are in the friend zone and don’t stand a chance with her. A woman will probably never call a guy she is truly attracted to sweet. “Sweetie” or “honey” on the other hand is a different story and could be a good thing.

The difference between Nice and Sweet. When used as adverbs, nice means nicely, whereas sweet means in a sweet manner. When used as adjectives, nice means pleasant, satisfactory, whereas sweet means having a pleasant taste, especially one relating to the basic taste sensation induced by sugar.

Sex therapist Vanessa Marin told a website, “Yes, ‘daddy’ can mean ‘father,’ but we also use the word to indicate when someone is the boss, in charge, a protector, or doing a good job. That’s usually the meaning women are going for in the bedroom.”

In general, take the compliment and thank the person for noticing you.

1. If its your boyfriend/girlfriend than thank him or her and be happy that they still care to notice.
2. If its your crush then respond “Thank you for your compliment but there’s more to me rather than just a cute and sweet face.”
