What Is a Subsea Umbilical Cable? A subsea umbilical cable is more than a submersible power cord. It is generally a multi-function hose or cable. For example, many subsea umbilical cables carry data cables as well as electrical lines. They can supply other “consumables” to a subsea or underwater apparatus.

In subsea oil/gas production systems, a subsea jumper, as shown in Figure 1-11, is a short pipe connector that is used to transport production fluid between two subsea components, for example, a tree and a manifold, a manifold and another manifold, or a manifold and an export sled.

The solution for a durable subsea connection. In hydraulic intervention, scale squeeze and acid stimulation, the vital connection is the link between the main conduit and the wellhead, or injection skid. Today’s solutions such as HCR hoses are not up to the task and fail regulary.

Rigid jumper systems have the contradictory design requirements of needing flexibility to accommodate extreme loading and installation tolerances, whilst avoiding excessive fatigue loading that may be generated from fluid flow, direct hydrodynamic loading or excitation from attached riser systems.

A PLET is the end or termination of a pipeline. The skid typically contains a male hub that serves as an attachment point for a jumper. The jumper utilizes a collet connector to make a permanent connection. There may also be other components on the skid such as ROV interface panels, ball valves and associated mud mats.

The Pipe Line End Manifold (PLEM) is a subsea structure acts as a connection point between the main or branch pipeline.

units and pipelines. A termination unit can be called a “PLEM” or a “PLET.” These units are connection points between two or several pipelines. A “pipe-to-pipe connection” can take place when a riser is connected to a subsea installed pipeline, or when an export flowline is connected to a spool.

The Oil States Pipeline End Manifold (PLEM) and Pipeline End Termination (PLET) systems are typically used in new construction where a pipeline terminates or needs to be jumpered to another location, such as an FPSO, refinery, holding tank, etc. A PLET is the end or termination of a pipeline.

Power Umbilicals. Providing connections to power and control critical. subsea assets. Medium voltage power cables included in umbilical designs provide a safe and efficient method for distributing power to subsea equipment such as pumps and subsea processing equipment.

Flexible piping is attached between the goosenecks and porches on the pontoons of the semisubmersible production vessel, providing the flow path to the vessel while accommodating relative movements between the rigid riser section and the platform [12]. Figure 29.4 shows a flexible jumper being installed.
