A rock is any naturally occurring solid mass or aggregate of minerals or mineraloid matter. It is categorized by the minerals included, its chemical composition and the way in which it is formed. Rocks are usually grouped into three main groups: igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks.

Deltas. River deltas form at the mouth of the river or inland on the approach to lakes.

A floodplain is an area of land which is covered in water when the river bursts its banks. A floodplain forms due to both erosion and deposition . Erosion by meanders removes any interlocking spurs , creating a wide, flat area on either side of the river.
