SHARE. A parent permission letter, also known as a parental consent form or a parental consent slip, is a document that may request permission to take temporary responsibility for a child by a teacher, youth worker or other individual who may be entrusted with caring for a youth.

A consent letter is simply a letter written to request for permission from a person or a group of people. The information offered via your consent form or consent letter must be used solely for its intended purpose.

Subject: Consent to ____ (state purpose for consent) (Explain the reason for providing/ requesting consent. Mention relevant details (such as dates, names, activities). End the letter by signing off and starting to accept the terms and conditions of the consent.

Ask your clients to send you an email back providing their name and a positive phrase (eg “I consent to you keeping my contact details for marketing purposes”). Furthermore, ensure the eShot/Direct Mail is engaging enough to be read, understood and acted upon. Simply saying ‘Please provide consent’ will not be enough.

Under GDPR, consent must be:

1. Unbundled: When you ask for consent, this needs to be separate from other terms and conditions.
2. Active: You must use blank opt-in boxes (or a similar binary method, where each choice is equally prominent) so that customers can actively choose to give consent.

The informed consent document should succinctly describe the research as it has been presented in the IRB application.

1. Ensure you have permission to email the people on your list. Most country’s email marketing laws stipulate that people need to give you permission to email them in order for you to send them campaigns. If you don’t have implied permission to email a person, then you’ll need express permission.

So to reiterate: It is legal in the U.S. to send an unsolicited commercial email. You do, however, have to comply with certain rules when sending those unsolicited emails, and if you don’t, the penalties can be very serious. Follow these five simple guidelines, and stay on the right side of the CAN-SPAM Act.

Anti-spam law restricts the sending of unsolicited marketing emails (‘spam’) to individual subscribers. Unsolicited emails can still be sent to corporate subscribers if they are relevant to their work. A ‘marketing’ email is not defined by the law either but must include any email promoting your goods and services.

The CAN-SPAM Act does not give consumers who have received spam email standing to file a private lawsuit for damages. Instead, private citizens must rely on the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) or state attorneys general to sue on their behalf to recover damages, impose civil penalties, or impose injunctions.
