Karategi
Karategi (空手着 or 空手衣) is the formal Japanese name for the traditional uniform used for Karate practice and competition. A karategi is somewhat similar to a judogi (柔道着 or 柔道衣, Judo uniform) as it shares a common origin; however, the material and cut of the uniform is generally much lighter and looser fitting.

In the world of martial arts, GI refers to the uniform donned by the students during the training sessions. It is alternatively known as a practice dress. The full term for GI is “Keikogi” which is generally shortened and pronounced as a gi (Keiko means practice, gi means dress or clothes).

Dobok
Dobok is the uniform worn by practitioners of Korean martial arts. Do means “way” and bok means “clothing.” The dobok is related to the Japanese keikogi/dōgi, used in Japanese martial arts, such as judo. The dobok comes in many colors, though white and black are the most common.

The word gi literally means ‘dress’ or ‘clothes’ but is often used to mean ‘uniform’. The gi consists of uwagi or jacket, zubon or pants, and an obi or belt. It’s introduction as a martial arts uniform is generally attributed to Jigoro Kano who developed judo from jujitsu in the early years of the 20th century.
