A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author’s ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

Writing Drabbles A drabble is like any story, it should have a beginning, a middle and an end. The beginning sets up the story, the middle is the meat (the progression of the story) and the end provides the conclusion.

Write a story in 100 words With a story this short, you have about 25 words to open the story and about 10 words at the end to wrap things up. The rest of the words hold the meat of the story. Often it’s easier to write the story a little longer and cut it down. Being concise doesn’t mean leaving out detail.

In fandom, a ficlet is a very short story, usually fan fiction but sometimes original fiction. The term is commonly applied to stories under 1000 words, although there is no hard and fast rule about how long a ficlet can be.

• Brevity. Flash fiction compresses an entire story into the space of a few paragraphs.
• A complete plot. A flash fiction story is indeed a story, with a beginning, middle, and end.
• Surprise.

Stories that range from 500 to 1,00 words are classed as flash fiction (here’s a great example). Stories less than 500 words are considered to be micro-fiction. Perhaps the most famous example of micro-fiction is Ernest Hemingway’s six-word story: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

How Many Sentences Is 100 Words? 100 words is about 5-7 sentences. A sentence typically has 15–20 words.

It should contain exactly 50 words, plus a title of up to 15 characters. However, the title requirement is not always enforced and sometimes eliminated altogether. Minisagas are alternately known as microstories, ultra-shorts stories, or fifty-word stories.

Answer: 50 words is 0.1 pages single-spaced or 0.2 pages double-spaced. Documents that typically contain 50 words are short memos, blog posts, or marketing copy. A 50 word count will create about 0.1 pages single-spaced or 0.2 pages double-spaced when using normal margins (1″) and 12 pt. Arial or Times New Roman font.

If you’re discussing a serious topic, sentences may be fine at 50 or even 75 words. The problem with long sentences is that they need to be crafted to make sense. If they aren’t, the length gets in the way of the meaning. It’s possible but harder to write meandering sentences with 25 or fewer words.

50 Words or Less: Writing Short Essays for College Apps

When is a sentence too long? It is difficult to come up with a magic number or formula for determining when a sentence is too long. A 12-word sentence that minces words can be too long, while a crystal clear, beautifully-composed 22-word sentence is sometimes just perfect. In general, though, never go beyond 30 words.

Two-word sentences have all they need to qualify as complete sentences: a subject and a verb. Used appropriately, they can be powerful. When teaching students about complete sentences, the two-word sentence is a good starting point.

How many words should we have in a sentence? A common plain English guideline says an average of 15–20 words (Cutts, 2009; Plain English Campaign, 2015; Plain Language Association InterNational, 2015).
