The B7 guitar chord is often one of the first few chords a beginner guitar player learns. It is played as a sort of barre chord on the second fret. You bar the A, D, and G strings with your first finger. You then pick up the F# with the third finger and the D# with the pinky finger.

Notes in D add9. D – F# (Gb) – A – E. As the label indicates, add9 chords are major chords with an added 9th degree note. They are four note chords, as opposed to the original 9 chord, which is a five note chord. An add9 has the notes 1-3-5-9, while the 9-chord has 1-3-5-b7-9.

You could also have Am/maj7, which would be an Am with a G#, an interval of a major 7. The first 3 are the most commonly used.

After the Amaj7 chord, you can use any chord from the scale, like you would use if you simply had a A (without the maj7). Pretty much the same would work if you considered it as a IVmaj7. It would be the IV from the E major scale.

12th fret
The Amaj7 guitar chord sounds open and clear all the way up at the 12th fret on the A string, where we start our movable C shape. This is an unorthodox shape, but a handy one to learn as it starts with the pinky finger.
