Viruses implicated in the development of seizures and epilepsy include: herpes viruses, Japanese encephalitis virus, Nipah virus, HIV, influenza viruses, parainfluenza virus, rotavirus, adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, cytomegalovirus and nonpolio picornavirus.

Etiology, also referred to as aitiology, aetiology, and disorder etiology, is study or theory of the factors that cause diseases or disorders; what is called causation. It also involves the origin of diseases and the methods by which diseases inflict a host such as a human.

It’s clear that certain factors increase the risk, however, including:

• Weight. The more fatty tissue you have, the more resistant your cells become to insulin.
• Inactivity.
• Family history.
• Race or ethnicity.
• Age.
• Gestational diabetes.
• Polycystic ovary syndrome.
• High blood pressure.

Patients with epilepsy and the worst bad oral hygiene, periodontitis and gingivitis had an increased incidence of seizure. Seizure frequency was strongly correlated with bad oral hygiene (p = 0.010), gingivitis (p < 0.001) and periodontal disease (p < 0.001).

If you have problems in your brain, you might have a seizure (SEE-zher). During a seizure you might jerk or shake. You might repeat movements like smacking your lips or grinding your teeth. After a seizure, most people feel sleepy or confused.

Types of Generalized-Onset Seizures

• Absence Seizures (“Petit Mal Seizures”)
• Myoclonic seizures.
• Tonic and Atonic Seizures (“Drop Attacks”)
• Tonic, Clonic and Tonic-Clonic (Formerly called Grand Mal) Seizures.

The most common type of seizure is the complex partial seizure. This is a seizure that begins in one part of the brain and then spreads to other regions of the brain.

If you have already been diagnosed as epileptic then yes, anxiety can cause seizures. Severe stress is a very common seizure trigger, and those with severe anxiety often experience severe stress. However, it should be noted that this is far more common with those that already have epilepsy.

People with nonepileptic seizures (NES) have periods of seizure-like activity. NES are characterized by a loss of or change in physical function without a central nervous system problem. The loss or change causes periods of physical activity or inactivity that resemble epileptic seizures.
