Unfortunately, Costco took them off the menu when the pandemic started, but now, ice cream and smoothies are back! There’s no word yet on any price or ingredient changes, unlike other items. If you’re trying to stay healthy, it may be best to avoid some menu items after you shop.

Kirkland Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream This rich and creamy vanilla ice cream is classified “super premium” by the dairy industry because of its high-quality ingredients and its overall density. That explains why it outranked brands such as Breyers and Baskin-Robbins in Consumer Reports’ taste tests.

While Costco has served frozen yogurt for years (very berry, anyone?), it’s not exactly the same thing (via Yahoo! Life). And somewhat unfairly, other countries have been enjoying ice cream at Costco for years.

Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream

33 Big Brands. ABC’s KRCR News reported in 2019 that Humboldt has been manufacturing vanilla ice cream for Costco under their Kirkland Signature house brand.

If you’re really, really into vanilla, or DIY, or just dropping a whole lot of money, you can always make your own extract using Costco’s Gourmet Vanilla Beans, unbranded, but prominently billed as being a product of Papua, New Guinea.

Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream, $11 for a half-gallon. Consumer Reports in its testing found that Costco’s private-label vanilla ice cream was full and dense, with surprisingly complex vanilla notes that would win over even dessert snobs. It beat out other big brands including Breyers and Baskin-Robbins.

Costco didn’t reveal the reason the ice cream bars were taken off the food court menu, but Regional SoCal news source Victor Valley News Group reported that rising food costs, for dairy and almonds, specifically, made it unfeasible for Costco to keep offering it.

The creamery already manufactures vanilla ice cream for Costco Wholesale under their Kirkland Signature house brand. He said he was excited for the future. “I think it’s a great time for Humboldt Creamery and only more good things coming our way,” he said. Callihan said four flavors would be available in stores.
