The Constitution did not originally include the term president-elect. Section 3 provides that if there is no president-elect on January 20, or the president-elect “fails to qualify”, the vice president-elect would become acting president on January 20 until there is a qualified president.

The 1820 United States presidential election was the ninth quadrennial presidential election. It was held from Wednesday, November 1, to Wednesday, December 6, 1820. It was the third and last United States presidential election in which a presidential candidate ran effectively unopposed.

After Election Day, on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December, these electors assemble in their state capitals, cast their ballots, and officially select the next President of the United States. Legally, the electors may vote for someone other than the candidate for whom they were pledged to vote.

The President can assent or withhold his assent to a bill or he can return a bill, other than a money bill which is recommended by the President himself to the houses. The President shall not withhold constitutional amendment bill duly passed by Parliament per Article 368.

The president can approve the bill and sign it into law or not approve (veto) a bill. If the president chooses to veto a bill, in most cases Congress can vote to override that veto and the bill becomes a law.
