The ‘inch per gallon rule’ / 1cm per 2 litres The length of fish is sometimes referred to as ‘fish inches’. A 100 litre tank equals 22 gallons therefore according to this rule can accommodate 22 inches of fully grown fish. The metric version of this would be 100 litres can hold 50cm of fully grown fish.

200l is a good size, but that is too many of the wrong kinds of fish to live harmoniously! i would suggest a group of small loaches (about 6), ie yo-yo loach. a large groups of tetra (one species) 20 or so. if you can get a mate for the bristlenose that would be ok.

There are various formulae you can use as a guide, but none are foolproof. The most common method has always been the “inch-per-gallon” rule, which basically says you can have one inch of fish (adult size, excluding tail fin) per one gallon of water.

The general rule of thumb is 1″ of fish per 4 liters, so you could have around five 3″ fish, or four 4″ fish.

How many fish can it hold? The marina 360 aquarium is a 10 litre / 2.65 gallon tank which is quite small, we would recommend only 3 or 4 tetras at the most. The majority of owners use this tank for keeping baby fish safe before they go into a larger tank.

What Size Is Appropriate for a Goldfish Tank? Get 20 gallons (75 liters) at the very minimum and only if you’re keeping one or two goldfish. We’ll get to why in a minute, but you don’t want an aquarium smaller than that. Depending on how many goldfish you plan to keep, chances are you’ll want a tank much, much larger.
