Some products that may interact with this drug include: “blood thinners” (such as warfarin), dofetilide, methenamine, methotrexate.

No interactions were found between aluminum hydroxide / calcium carbonate / magnesium hydroxide / simethicone and Bactrim. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist.

Ranitidine decreases stomach acid, so it may change how well these products work. Some affected products include atazanavir, dasatinib, delavirdine, certain azole antifungals (such as itraconazole, ketoconazole), pazopanib, among others.

Since the bacteria are stronger, it may be harder to treat your infection the next time around. So unless your doctor says it’s okay to stop early, be sure to finish your entire course of antibiotics.

There’s an increased risk of side effects if you take 2 doses closer together than recommended. Accidentally taking 1 extra dose of your antibiotic is unlikely to cause you any serious harm. But it will increase your chances of getting side effects, such as pain in your stomach, diarrhoea, and feeling or being sick.

If you’re still finding it difficult to remember to take your antibiotics, ask a pharmacist or GP about compliance aids. These are boxes with labelled compartments that you can put your medicines in. They can help remind you to take your antibiotics at specific times of the day or on particular days of the week.

Antibiotics, even used for short periods of time, let alone for life-long therapy, raise the issues of both toxicity and the emergence of bacterial antibiotic resistance. (Bacterial antibiotic resistance means that the bacteria do not respond to the antibiotic treatment.)
