A dog with the same nature is good company for a Border Collie mix and will help to provide the exercise the dog needs. Topping the list of breeds that fit this bill are Australian Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog and Belgian Tervuren. They match a Border Collie’s drive and size.

Most breeds that get along well with them have mellow personalities. The following are some of the breeds known to get along well with German Shepherds: Siberian Huskies, Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and Border Collies. These dogs are medium to large, ensuring better compatibility.

Both breeds are very territorial and serve as excellent guard dogs but neither barks very often. Border Collies are very unlikely to bite people or other dogs. German Shepherds are thought to have a higher bite risk, but this usually comes down to training and not the dog.

He is bred to work in partnership with people. If your Border Collie is a family pet, he needs to live indoors. Otherwise, he’ll be lonely, bored and destructive – and less, rather than more, likely to warn you of trouble.

Do Border Collies Shed? The unfortunate answer for most is, yes. They are a long-haired double-coated breed and tend to shed a lot. Twice a year, things can go from bad to worse pretty quickly — in fall and spring, they shed excessively.

If your Border Collie smells, it could certainly be due to either having dirty paws or even a yeast infection. This isn’t to be confused with the common “corny” type of smell coming from their paws, this is normal. If your collie has something legitimately wrong, you will know about it!
