Appearance. Mackenzie has blonde hair and icy blue eyes. It is said that she wears blonde hair extensions and sometimes gets spray-on tans, which she calls her “flawless complexion”. She is known for sashaying (walking in a strut-like yet casual way, which annoys Nikki).

She occasionally wears plain make-up and doesn’t wear full on make-up like Mackenzie. Throughout the books, it is shown that Nikki is embracing her dorky side and wears pigtails more often than before. However, her style with clothes improves.

As of now in the book series, both characters are stuck between “just friends” and “in a boyfriend/girlfriend” relationship due to numerous romantic approaches made. Brandon has not yet asked Nikki out officially in any of the books in the Dork Diaries series other than saying how he felt.

MacKenzie is a spoiled 14-year-old daughter of very rich parents. She paid Nikki, the main character in Dork Diaries, no attention until deeming her to be an annoying pest.

The publisher lists the target age as 9 to 13 years old, but we think 9 to 11 is more accurate. While our 12-year-old still enjoyed the series, she admitted she would have liked it more in third and fourth grade, as opposed to sixth.

Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment has acquired movie rights to Rachel Renee Russell’s young teen book series “Dork Diaries.”

You don’t necessarily need to read the Dork Diaries in order, but we still recommend starting with book one to get the background. The Dork Diaries reading level is perfect for kids 8+ and the diary book style makes them fun and easy to read.

There are 14 books in the series but 23 books in all, if you count the Double Dork collections and the World Book Day Novella. The sixth Double Dork Diaries edition will release in December this year during a “Christmas of Dork” campaign.
