Academic probation is intended as a corrective measure when a college student’s GPA falls below school requirements. Experts say that typically means below a 2.0 grade point average, though that number can vary by college and even by the specific program of study.

Probation is an active accreditation status and those entering a program that is on probation are entering a program that is accredited. If the program remains on probation or is removed from probation by the time of your graduation, you would be graduating from an accredited program.

If a PA school on probation is up for review in the span between being accepted and starting, it’s possible that the program could lose accreditation before you’d start. In this case, you wouldn’t be able to attend, as happens when a developing program doesn’t achieve accreditation.

If your program loses its accreditation, the program will inform you of the next steps in completing your PA education. To be eligible for NCCPA certification, you must graduate from a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

Accreditation – Probationary. A program is non-compliant in a CORE criterion OR. A program is in compliance with less than 50% of the accreditation criteria in one standard OR. A program is in compliance with less than 80% of the accreditation criteria in more than two standards OR.

Failing Academic Probation If you fail to raise cumulative GPA during your probationary period, or your probationary period GPA is below the minimum, you will be placed on academic suspension pending your academic dismissal.
