The Question reveals under interrogation by Cadmus that aglets have a sinister purpose. What is this purpose? “The plastic tips at the ends of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister!”

The word “aglet” (or “aiglet”) originates from Old French “aguillette” (or “aiguillette”), which is the diminutive of “aguille” (or “aiguille”), meaning “needle”. This in turn comes from the original Latin word for needle: “acus”. Hence, an “aglet” is like a short “needle” at the end of a shoelace.

In the movie Cocktail, Tom Cruise’s character, Brian Flanagan, tells the story of the man who invented the plastic tips that go on the ends of shoelaces (aka Flugelbinders). This man, created something so simple, but is now insanely wealthy.

A fluglebinder is the plastic end on either a shoelace or drawstring it is an actual word not fictional like others think just ask Google.

The simplest way to create an aglet is to wrap adhesive tape two or three times around the end of the shoelace. Combine with glue for added security. Dripping wax or resin onto the lace end, then rolling it between your fingers while still warm, creates a reasonable short-term aglet.

You can determine the shoelace length you need by removing the laces from your shoe and measuring the lace, then ordering accordingly….

1) Winding machine – yarn preparation. Most laces are made with 1/167 Dtex textured polyester yarn, this is a very fine yarn. Depending on the style of lace to be produced there will usually be multiple strands of yarn on each bobbin. The video shows three ends of yarn in the process of being wound onto each bobbin.

If you are going to try the double-lux-into-a-triple-axle of lacing, remember this: do not tie them too tight. However, the length on the laces that come with Lows and Mids is perfect for the not-too-loose untied look as long as done all the way to the last or second-to-last lace hole.

Comparing the left photo (fake AF1) to the right (real AF1), the spacing is much longer between the bottom of the stitching to the top of the flap.

The Nike Air Force 1 is one of the most recognizable sneakers in the game and, thankfully, one of the most comfortable Nike shoes as well. The substantial sole doesn’t degrade and contains a hidden Air pocket for all-day comfort. While they’re a bit on the heavier side, they aren’t so clunky they become obstructive.
