Snow feels cold! It’s hard to feel snow, though, because snowflakes melt and turn into water as soon as they touch your skin. Light and dry powdered snow is great for skiing. Hard, wet packing snow is great for making snowballs and snowmen.

Snow’s effect on climate Seasonal snow is an important part of Earth’s climate system. Snow cover helps regulate the temperature of the Earth’s surface, and once that snow melts, the water helps fill rivers and reservoirs in many regions of the world, especially the western United States.

Snow cover refers to the amount of land covered by snow at any given time. Naturally, it is influenced by the amount of precipitation that falls as snow. Air temperature also plays a role because it determines whether precipitation falls as snow or rain, and it affects the rate at which snow on the ground melts.

So, for example, it may be 75° degrees and sunny or it could be 20° degrees with heavy snow. That’s the weather. Climate is the average of that weather. For example, you can expect snow in the Northeast in January or for it to be hot and humid in the Southeast in July.

Impacts of snow loss The bright white covering affects global conditions by reflecting solar energy away from surfaces that would otherwise absorb it. Therefore, the earlier decrease in snow cover increases the amount of sunlight absorbed by Earth, and in turn, surface temperatures.

Snow Makes You Work Out Really, though, it’s no so different than working out. It’s aerobic exercise that gets your heart pumping, and you don’t even have to go to the gym. So, while trudging through snow might be hard, think of it as nature giving you a free workout.
