Albert Square (often referred to as “The ‘Square”) is the fictional location of the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. The square’s design was based on the real life Fassett Square in the East End, and was given the name Albert Square after the real life history of Prince Albert and the then deprived East End.

Unfortunately there are no public tours of the Eastenders Sets or of the studio itself at any time. The Albert Square permanent exterior set was designed by the late Keith Harris, the senior designer in the EastEnders production team. Extensions including a fictional Tube station have been added over the years.

‘We use plate shots which are very basic CGI shots which are two people in the final scene that look like they are sitting at the same table, but actually they’ve been filmed in complete isolation from another, when you’re actually filming you’ll be talking to space actually.
