Research in psychology seeks to understand and explain thought, emotion, feelings, or behavior. The research findings of psychologists have greatly increased our understanding of why people and animals behave as they do. They understand the conditions that can make workers more productive.

Psychologists conduct investigations and experiments in order to establish a correlation as to how nature and nurture affect a person’s cognitive and behavioral capacity. This means that it deals with people’s processes of behavior (and how they acquire it), and mental capacity (or lack thereof).

Also known as experimental psychologists, research psychologists study a broad range of human and animal behavior. They design and conduct experiments exploring how people act, think, behave, interact, learn, feel, and perform under different conditions.

LONDON (Reuters) – Europeans are plagued by mental and neurological illnesses, with almost 165 million people or 38 percent of the population suffering each year from a brain disorder such as depression, anxiety, insomnia or dementia, according to a large new study.

In 2015, the European Union (EU) had around 90 000 psychiatrists in total. The majority practised in Germany (18 200 psychiatrists, or 21% of the EU total), France (15 200 psychiatrists, 17%), the United Kingdom (11 800 psychiatrists, 14%) and Italy (10 800 psychiatrists, 12%).

One in four children in Germany suffers from mental illness, a new study of patient data from German health insurance company DAK released Thursday revealed. The survey of child and teenager mental health was based on data collected from 800,000 children insured by DAK in 2016 and 2017.

People who need professional help for psychological problems can first talk to their family doctor, a psychosocial counselor or go straight to a psychotherapist or psychiatrist. In an emergency there are also psychiatric practices with emergency services as well as psychiatric clinics.

Services such as therapist visits, group therapy, and emergency mental healthcare are typically covered by health insurance plans. Rehabilitative services for addiction are also included. Therapy can be expensive, with or without insurance.
