Polar bears feed mainly on ringed and bearded seals. Depending upon their location, they also eat harp and hooded seals and scavenge on carcasses of beluga whales, walruses, narwhals, and bowhead whales. On occasion, polar bears kill beluga whales and young walruses.

Unlike other bear species, polar bears are almost exclusively meat eaters (carnivorous). They mainly eat ringed seals, but may also eat bearded seals.

Black bears, polar bears, and grizzly bears are members of the carnivora order, but they are omnivores. The primary food source for the polar bear is seals. It also eats fish, seabirds, and sometimes, reindeer. In the summer it also eats berries and other plants.

Polar bears use their sense of smell to detect a carcass from nearly 20 miles away. They will happily feed on the carcasses of beluga whales, grey whales, walruses, narwhals and bowhead whales when available.

But polar bears never poo in the woods because they live on ice… they poop where they stand regardless of the place, and they scream while doing it. Answer: UNCONFIRMED – because scientists have never been close enough to actually hear if they are screaming… ok, ok, it’s FALSE.

Adult polar bears have no natural predators, though walruses and wolves can kill them.

Myth #6: If a bear charges you, climb a tree. Bears sometimes kill each other by throwing their opponents out of trees. Grizzlies, too, can climb – perhaps not as quickly, but they have been known to attack people who climbed trees to escape.

MOSCOW: Cases of polar bears killing and eating each other are on the rise in the Arctic as melting ice and human activity erode their habitat, a Russian scientist said.
