When the Lorax first appears to speak on behalf of the trees, the Once-ler claims he is doing no harm by cutting down Truffula Trees to make Thneeds.

One day, the Once-ler discovers a valley was full of beautiful Truffula trees which the Bar-ba-Loots, Swommee Swans and Humming Fish inhabit. He decides to cut down one of the trees for his invention, the Thneed.

When he chops down a Truffula Tree, he finds The Lorax in the tree trunk. He receives a warning about destroying the forest for his greedy plans. The Once-ler doesn’t listen and continues to cut down trees to create Thneeds to sell.

A long time ago in a “glorious place,” the Once-ler discovered that he could make a fortune using the tufts of the Truffula Trees by making Thneeds, “a fine-something-that-all-people-need.” Thneeds become something everyone seems to “need” and buy.

Did the Once-ler have real progress? Why or why not? He did have real progress in the beginning because he was able to make thneeds at a fast rate while still having truffula trees for resources. But then when the truffula trees began to dwindle as a result of the pollution, the Once-ler had to shut down his business.

Why did the Once-ler need to make so many thneeds? The Once-ler had a lot of demand for his thneeds – everyone wanted one, and he was making a lot of money. 2. He asked the Once-ler to please think about the harm he was causing by making his thneeds.

What does the Once-ler mean by UNLESS? Explain. Unless meaning that unless you care to help the environment its not going to get better and its not going to change. A person has to care enough to make the change. The Truffula seed represents the earth and the environment because it will help the earth to grow.

The Bar-ba-loots are first seen when the Once-Ler comes to the Truffula tree forest. After the last Truffula Tree is chopped down the Lorax sends them and the other forest creatures off to find another place to live.

Did the Once-ler stop making Thneeds after the Swomee-Swans and Humming-Fish had left? No 9. After the last Truffula Tree was gone and The Lorax left, what did the town look like? A pile of rocks under the smog smuffered stars.

To that end, the Once-ler saw an opportunity to make a fortune when he first noticed the beautiful, bright-colored tufts of the Truffula Trees. He became aware of how soft the tufts were and how sweet they smelled. The Once-ler quickly set up a small shop, chopped down his first Truffula Tree, and knitted a Thneed.

The negative impacts of the sneed factory on the environment was his business destroys the whole environment. There isn’t one tree or animal or person left.

Despite the Lorax’s protests, the Once-ler cuts down all the truffula trees, and the animals that lived there — the bar-ba-loots, the swomee-swans and the humming fish — all leave, saying goodbye to their former Eden.

The Lorax said nothing but with one sad backward glance lifted himself into the air “by the seat of his pants” and disappeared behind the smoggy clouds.

Eventually the Once-ler’s Thneed business consumed every single Truffula tree, eliminating the Truffula forest ecosystem and putting his own company out of business. The Once-ler’s relatives abandoned him, and the Lorax flew away, leaving behind a small pile of rocks inscribed with the word “UNLESS.”

The moral of the story is a simple one of respect for the environment and environmental sustainability. Basically, that unrestrained commercial endeavors eventually spoil the natural world, leaving it a wasteland, unfit to support life.

The Once-ler gives Ted the last Truffula seed in hopes he can regrow the forest and make others care about trees.
