Jesus Endorsed The Tithe “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.”

Even if you’re in debt or walking through a rough financial season, tithing should still be a priority. But you should hold off on offerings (extra gifts) while you’re paying off debt, though. And if you’re in debt, you should put all your extra money toward your debt snowball.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7, NIV). I won’t be mad at you for not tithing because Jesus certainly was not. But I encourage you to continue doing it even as you dig your way out of debt.

But the Bible says that we are not to worry about finances. He is in charge of every penny that we will ever see. We shouldn’t avoid tithing because we are fearful about having to hoard our money for some unforeseen event. Giving our tithes to the Lord is an act of faith as well as an act of obedience .

There are many questions around tithing and giving money to the church and God’s Word has plenty to say about it! Money is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible! God knew money would be something we would hold tightly to and place a lot of importance on. Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about tithing and giving 10% back to God.
