As emperor, Trajan expanded the Roman Empire to become larger than ever before. He conquered Dacia (now part of Romania), which provided land for Roman settlers and rich pickings from gold and salt mines. He then attacked the Parthians, Rome’s old enemy in the East, who lived in what is now part of Iran.

Trajan was a Roman emperor (98–117 CE) who sought to extend the boundaries of the empire to the east, undertook a vast building program, and enlarged social welfare. He is also remembered for Trajan’s Column, an innovative work of art that commemorated his Dacian Wars.

Good leaders will always have a compelling vision. During his reign, Trajan worked closely alongside the Senate. He was always honest with officials, advising them of his plans. He treated the Senate with utmost respect.

The Emperor was extraordinarily popular. Trajan’s personality, as an outstanding military commander and ruler, had a great influence on the style of official art. His plain, resolute face became a model for imitation in the depiction of statesmen and private individuals.

Trajan’s war against the Parthian Empire ended with the sack of the capital Ctesiphon and the annexation of Armenia and Mesopotamia. In late 117, while sailing back to Rome, Trajan fell ill and died of a stroke in the city of Selinus.

Trajan is a great leader to pick for beginners, because he provides a gentle early-game, giving you a nice, steady supply of housing, money and culture that will help you develop in whatever direction you like.

How to win Civ6 as Rome? The short answer is to expand a lot early game and then rush Legions in the Medieval Era and conquer a lot of territory. After winning many wars using Legions, proceed to any type of victory you prefer, domination and culture being easier for this civilization. Settle as much as possible.

Legions are strong but have a definite sell-by date; the best way to counter Rome is to beeline machinery and build lots of crossbows. Also horsemen beat em up.

Trading Posts can allow a particularly productive core city to supply a developing border city directly, and can also enable wealthy core cities to trade directly with foreign cities. Capital, have long ranges and a wide choice of destination cities. Trading Post in at least one of its cities.

Religious Settlements

Before there was money, people traded one item for another. This was known as “bartering.” For example, a farmer who grew corn may have bartered with the butcher who had meat. The farmer would give the butcher corn in exchange for the butcher giving the farmer meat.

It’s per turn. Persia gets bonus gold and culture bonus from internal trade route, so you have a pretty gigantic incentive to do that over international trade routes.

This happens right after a trade route expires and there should be lots of routes available. It kind of ends the game. When each route expires there are none available to replace it with, affecting your income significantly.

Trade Route at a time. Each city with a Commercial Hub or a Harbor (or, from Rise and Fall onwards, a Market or a Lighthouse) increases a civilization’s Trading Capacity by one. These bonuses are not cumulative: a city with both a Commercial Hub/Market and a Harbor/Lighthouse adds only one Trading Capacity, not two.
