Franchisees and industry experts point to a failure to keep up with changing trends—including more flexible hours for busy working women—cheaper competition and the tough economy as major reasons for Curves’ decline.

Last year 833 clubs, or 16% of the chain’s domestic presence, closed across the U.S., turning what many franchisees thought would be comfortable incomes and retirement nest eggs into money pits. Curves now has about 4,000 U.S. locations—half the number at its zenith in 2005.

Simply put, the Curves workout is a good time-efficient, low- to moderate-intensity exercise program. “For the very active, it’s not that spectacular of a workout,” says Greany. And Curves has arguably done more to get inactive women exercising than any other fitness trend or organization in the history of exercise.

Curve Membership Prices The initiation Fee of each plan is $ 149.49, while there is no cancellation fee. If you choose a monthly plan, you will have to pay $ 34.49 for basic and $49.59 for Premium. And the yearly plan will cost $419.99 for Basic and $549.99 for Premium.

Since its founding in 1992, Curves gyms have grown to a membership of 4 million women. But Curves has specifically designed a female-friendly environment that excludes males. As of publication, Curves is not open to male members.

Calories and Weight Loss Assuming you burn 184 calories at Curves, you’d have to trim more than 300 calories from your daily diet. However, as the study notes, this is only the average number of calories study participants burned at Curves. The more you weigh, the more calories you burn during circuit training.

The World Health Organization recommends 150 minutes of exercise per week. To achieve this, working out at Curves would be three to four 30-minute sessions, plus one or two 30-minute walks per week.
