What is Antique Bronze Color? Antique bronze is a dark olive color not included in the web colors list. The name comes from the bronze metallic alloy that has an old green patina. It can be applied to web pages with HTML and/or CSS via the hex, RGB and/or HSL codes.

The only real difference between the two different finishes it the color. While both are dark brown in color, oil rubbed bronze contains tiny gold and bronze flecks. It is known as bronze disease because the reaction produces a green powder on the surface of bronze artifacts that resembles a fungus. This corrosion is much like rust on iron. This corrosion is caused by a circular set of reactions that involve the chlorides of a copper alloy and water.

Shortly after a bronze object is produced, a very thin layer of a brown protective patina forms on the surface. Subsequently, depending on accessibility of moisture and other agents, this patina may slowly become evenly blue/green (this may take 30 to 50 years).

The recommended method of cleaning bronze is by using all natural, universal cleaning agents like lemon or vinegar. However, if you desire a high luster effect, you may need to use commercially prepared metal cleaners that have chemicals specifically formulated to remove patina.

Treatment for the condition typically involves physical removal of the chlorides (through scrubbing), chemical or electrochemical removal, and then isolating the object from oxygen, water, and future chloride contamination using an airtight container or a wax coating.

If you want to protect bronze while it is still new and shiny, clean any oil or other contaminants from the metal . This can be done by simply wiping the metal with a solvent cleaner like xylene or denatured alcohol which can be purchased at most hardware or paint stores.
