Electricity pass through conductors, the utensils on which we cook food are conductors. Insulators are used in switches boards and coating on plastic is also insulator. Conductors are metals that make electrical wires.

Insulators are used in electrical equipment to support and separate electrical conductors without allowing current through themselves. An insulating material used in bulk to wrap electrical cables or other equipment is called insulation.

Electrical insulators prevent electrons from moving through a substance. This keeps electricity on the correct and most efficient path in our homes. Plastic, wood and glass are good electrical insulators. Thermal insulators are used to prevent the flow of heat.

Aluminum, copper and stainless steel are good heat conductors as they are metals, They are used in making cooking pots and the kettles that are used in the houses and the factories.

Food can be cooked efficiently in shorter time. The utensils are generally made of copper, brass, steel, aluminium etc. 2. The handles of kettles and utensils are made of bad conductors of heat such as wood, plastic, ebonite, etc.

Things which are bad conductors of heat are used as insulators. In same occasions it is important (1) to prevent heat loss from a hot body (2) to prevent heat from entering cold body. 3. Fur, wool, cotton wool, cork, feathers, sawdust, trapped air in birds’ feathers etc.

 Cooking utensils are made of metals so that heat can easily get transferred.  Refrigerator coils are made of copper so as to conduct away the heat.  The handles of cooking utensils are made of bad conductors of heat, such as wood or ebonite.

Materials that allow heat to pass through them easily are called good conductors of heat. Materials that do not conduct heat as easily and quickly as metals do are bad conductors.
