Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death for both women and men in Hungary.

According to the World Bank, for every 1,000 people in the world, an average of 7.748 people will die each year and 19.349 will be born. That’s a ratio of about 2.5 births for every death.

In 2019, 129.6 thousand people died in Hungary. Over the period under consideration, the lowest number was registered in 2014.

However, despite slowing death rates, circulatory diseases still account for 37 % of all deaths in Germany. Ischaemic heart disease remains by far the leading cause of mortality, responsible for more than one in ten deaths. Lung cancer is the most frequent cause of death by cancer, at 20 % of all cancer deaths.

The latest data available on the number of deaths in Italy revealed that nearly 233 thousand deaths recorded in 2018 in the country were caused by diseases of the circulatory system. These diseases represented the main cause of death in Italy.

The Russian Federation shows the highest death rates from cardiovascular disease of the 17 countries compared. Their death rate is over three times that of Australia for both males and females.

• Cancer. Number of deaths per year: 598,038.
• Accidents (unintentional injuries) Number of deaths per year: 161,374.
• Chronic lower respiratory diseases.
• Stroke.
• Alzheimer’s disease.
• Diabetes.
• Influenza and pneumonia.

Like other countries, cardiovascular diseases, motor vehicle accidents, cancers, intentional and unintentional injuries, lower respiratory tract infections, and stroke are the most important causes of mortality in Iran.
