The Function of Families

Understanding the Research As a rule, organized religion can present a high level of community support for a family. Religion can help guide a family about the values and behaviors that are “good” or “bad” for the group. People who are religious may be more connected to one another and possibly more empathetic.

Durkheim believed that the primary function of religion was to preserve and solidify society. It functions to reinforce the collective unity or social solidarity of a group. Sharing the same religion or religious interpretation of the meaning of life unites people in a cohesive and building moral order.

• physical maintenance and care of family members;
• addition of new members through adoption or procreation;
• socialization of children;
• social control of its members;
• production, consumption and distribution of goods and services; and.
• affective nurturance (love).

There can be no doubt that the scriptural order of priorities is God, spouse, children, parents, extended family, brothers and sisters in Christ, and then the rest of the world. Consider Paul’s words in Colossians 3:18-22 KJV, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

2 Families are very important components of society and people’s lives. They teach us a lot about life and relationships. They love us and treat us valuably. They boost our self-confidence and make us feel valued.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father we thank you for your everlasting love. We thank you that because of your love we are able to love others. We pray that you would help us to be kind to one another, showing each other mercy, forgiveness and understanding. Help us to share the love you’ve so generously shared with us.

prayer helps couples deal with stress, enables them to focus on shared beliefs and hopes for the future, and allows them to deal constructively with challenges and problems in their relationship and in their lives. Families used prayer time as a way to transmit religious traditions to younger generations.

Here is a handbook for all who desire God’s involvement in their family matters – from the heart of a parent who knows the power of prayer. More than ever today our families need to be surrounded and upheld by a power greater than our own. PRAYER provides that power.

Lord, grant me patience, selflessness, and peace today. Healer, cleanse me from the evil thoughts of selfishness that so easily creep into my mind. Jesus, protect my heart; keep it pure and full of love and honor for my family.
