Century Gothic is a sans-serif typeface in the geometric style, released by Monotype Imaging in 1991. It is strongly influenced by the font Futura, but with a larger x-height. Its design also derives from two other typefaces that were designed to compete with Futura.

Nowadays, Gothic lettering is valued for its formal, striking, and ornamental qualities. (For this reason, it is best used for decorative purposes, where people don’t need to be able to read the text easily.) A Gothic script has a very definite medieval ‘feel’ to it.

3 Why do people become Goths? Most Goths become Goths because they have been spurned by ‘normal’ society because the way they want to live their lives does not fit in with how most people are told to live theirs. Goths are free thinkers, people who do not accept the moral rules of society.

Goth lifestyle allows for both commonalities AND differences from the dominant culture. But generally, goths hate the mall, mass media, popular fashion and hate doing things they’re told to do by marketing gurus. Goths live their whole lives ironically.

All goths like their wine, and even though we know it’s cliché, red is vastly preferred over white, though a dry white is rarely turned down. Champagne is almost universally avoided since as a rule goths are not a bubbly lot.

There are still goths, not only adults but also people between 13 and 17. There’s always newer people, usually drove into thanks to the music. Sometimes they organize Goth parties and they gather. I’ve participated in many of them, but mostly between 2006 and 2014.

In due time, especially around the 90s, emo replaced goth, since people thought newer, more emotional, music was the new flame. Now it’s making a “comeback” because again, the subculture’s aesthetic and fashion statements are being used for businesses and companies.
