The three main types of learning disabilities are: reading disabilities, written language disabilities, and math disabilities.

Heredity, also called inheritance or biological inheritance, is the passing on of traits from parents to their offspring; either through asexual reproduction or sexual reproduction, the offspring cells or organisms acquire the genetic information of their parents. IQ measurement has traditionally been used to define severity: A person with an IQ of less than 20 would be described as having a profound learning disability. A person with an IQ of 20-34, a severe learning disability. A person with an IQ of 35-49, moderate learning disability.

False! By definition, a learning disability can only be diagnosed in someone with average or above-average intelligence. Those with learning disabilities often have a high IQ — however, the LD is holding them back from demonstrating their true intelligence in daily achievements.

Common signs that a person may have learning disabilities include the following:

• Problems reading and/or writing.
• Problems with math.
• Poor memory.
• Problems paying attention.
• Trouble following directions.
• Clumsiness.
• Trouble telling time.
• Problems staying organized.

In particular, psychology professionals should study these seven learning disabilities:

• Dyslexia.
• Dysgraphia.
• Dyscalculia.
• Auditory processing disorder.
• Language processing disorder.
• Nonverbal learning disabilities.
• Visual perceptual/visual motor deficit.

Behaviours might be things like: Hurting others (e.g. hair pulling, hitting, head-butting) Self-injury (e.g. head banging, eye poking, hand biting) Destructive behaviours (e.g. throwing things, breaking furniture, tearing things up)

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is not a learning disability; however, it does make learning difficult. For example, it is hard to learn when you struggle to focus on what your teacher is saying or when you can’t seem to be able to sit down and pay attention to a book. You can have both.

ADHD is not considered to be a learning disability. It can be determined to be a disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), making a student eligible to receive special education services.
