The ending makes it seem like Teddy was indeed telling the truth, and Lenny got butthurt because he didn’t feel the sense of revenge like he thought, so he makes Teddy his next target, and purposely does all these weird things so he can constantly feel like he’s avenging his wife and stopping “the killer”.

He claimed Leonard was brain damaged by the attack and his wife couldn’t live with it, so got Leonard to give her an overdose of insulin in order to test his amnesia. He killed her and was put in a home and transferred the incident to an old case of his, Sammy Jankis and his wife.

Natalie was a bar waitress who was involved with Leonard’s hunt for revenge. Natalie worked at Ferdy’s Bar as a waitress, but she also took orders for her drug dealing boyfriend Jimmy Grantz. The customers wrote messages on the bottom of coasters to pass to her secretly.

Sammy Jankis was a semi-retired accountant who got into a car accident that gave him permanent short-term memory loss.

And of course, Memento is not a science fiction film. Leonard suffers from a very real, if very rare, condition called anterograde amnesia, in which he’s unable to form new memories after a head trauma assumed during the murder of his wife (Jorja Fox).

Teddy

Both Teddy and Shelby are villains because they both take advantage of Leonard and his disability. One uses his disability to get rid of bad people in the world while leaving him to believe he’s killing his wife’s murderer, the other uses him for personal reasons.

He remembers the accidents. By remembering Sammy Jenkins, he remembers he has a similar condition. He now confirms his weakness.

The movie actually begins with Leonard killing Teddy. And then the movie ends with Leonard right at the moment when he decides he’s going to allow himself to make the future version of himself believe Teddy is the killer.
