Ghost in the Shell/2.0 and Innocence are set in the same universe, and I would recommend to watch them first as they have the strongest story and production values. The SAC-series has it’s own separate universe and is more of a crime series where the movies are more philosophical.

The name is a reference to philosopher Arthur Koestler’s 1967 book The Ghost in the Machine, a treatise on the nature of consciousness whose title was borrowed from another philosopher, Gilbert Ryle, who coined the phrase to describe the notion of consciousness as somehow apart and separate from biological processes.

Show it’s great (both seasons). Nothing after that it’s worth it. If you liked the first movie, I would also recommend “From the New World”, which have a similar feel to it, and tackles great themes with an envolving story. I can’t consider Innocence to be pretentious.

The investigation again comes to a dead end. Megatech Body, a “shell” manufacturer with suspected close ties to the government, is hacked and assembles a cybernetic body. The body escapes but is hit by a truck. As Section 9 examines the body, they find a human “ghost” inside its computer brain.

Ghost in the Shell originated as a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow beginning in 1989. It takes place in a fictional city in mid-21st century Japan and tells the story of a group of special operatives, Public Security Section 9, who fight terrorism, corruption and cybercrime.

They were both kidnapped, their bodies stolen from them, and their ghosts placed in shells by Hanka. It’s then that Hanka attacks them with a giant Spider Tank. It seriously damages Kuze, but the Major is able to destroy it, also suffering damage in the process. The two lay together as Kuze dies from his wounds.
