I would probably recommend that you read the Percy Jackson series before the heroes of Olympus series because it will help you understand the plot and the characters better. Also in the heroes of Olympus series there are references to the previous Percy Jackson book.

Not really, no, you can’t read it directly after Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The events of The Trials of Apollo start right after the events of The Heroes of Olympus. It focuses on characters that you won’t be familiar with, and you’ll lack some essential knowledge about what’s going on.

Towards the very end of Rick Riordan’s wonderful THE BLOOD OF OLYMPIANS (book 5 in his consistently wonderful The HEROES OF OLYMPUS series), Nico di Angelo (son of Hades/Pluto) finally reveals his secret in a nicely anti-climactic way to Percy (son of Poseidon/Neptune), after the 7 demi-gods have saved the world.
