Should I put in a 180 degree thermostat in a Challenger Scat Pack?

HomeArticles, FAQShould I put in a 180 degree thermostat in a Challenger Scat Pack?

Just daily driving, don’t really need it. Racing the car, it’s a good idea. It makes the car more consistent when racing as in the car is less heat soaked at all times. You can put in a 180 without changing anything and it will run that temperature on the highway and run at normal temps when in stop and go traffic.

Q. What is the difference between a 180 and 195 thermostat?

Like air coolers, refrigerators the car engine also has a thermostat built in them. The function is similar to keep the engine as cool as possible….180 vs 195 Degree Thermostat.

Q. Do you need a tune for a 180 degree thermostat?

You really need to tune the car and adjust the fan settings so that it keeps the car around 180-188 at all times even at idle. With no other mods it will get down to 180 or so while moving but once you stop the fans won’t kick on until 210-215 like stock and it will creep up at lower speeds or idle.

Q. Does a cooler engine run better?

Performance vehicles move parts even quicker, from engine internals, to transmission gears, to differentials, only making components hotter. Cooling temperatures throughout the drivetrain will not only keep a car running longer, but will potentially help it run quicker.

Q. What is the best car thermostat to buy?

The Stant SuperStat Thermostat is a very efficient car thermostat that out-performs the Original Equipment thermostat.

Q. What degree thermostat should I use?

Or better yet, “What is the most energy saving temperature to set my thermostat at?” According to ENERGYSTAR.gov, the ideal home temperature should be in between 70 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

Q. Does a thermostat add horsepower?

If you hang around car guys long enough, you will hear that a colder thermostat will help you make more power. However, a low-temp thermostat by itself does not make power. In some circumstances, a colder thermostat can help the engine make more power. But it’s not the lower temps that do it.

Q. Are high flow thermostats worth it?

Utilizing a 30% larger opening valve, the high flow thermostat increases coolant flow and improves cooling system performance. Ideal for high performance applications, or for applications where additional loads are placed on the engine.

Q. Should I use a 160 degree thermostat?

Many people don’t really understand thermostats at all. If your cooling system is working properly, the 160 deg stat will open at approx 160 degrees allowing the cooling system to keep the engine about 160 degrees, too low for proper operation.

Q. Are Low Temp thermostats bad?

The problem with a low temp thermostat then for regular driving is that there are times when the car will be running at a temperature lower than it’s design intended. The result is increased wear on the engine’s internals.

Q. What does the temperature on a car thermostat mean?

What does the temperature on a car thermostat mean? If a thermostat is advertised as “195 degrees,” that means the thermostat is designed to start opening (thus allowing coolant to flow through the radiator and cool the engine) when engine coolant temperature reaches 195 degrees.

Q. How do I know if my car needs a thermostat?

Here are the signs your car thermostat is failing:

  1. The temperature gauge reads high and the engine overheats.
  2. The temperature changes erratically.
  3. The vehicle’s coolant leaks around the thermostat or under the vehicle.
