It depends on person to person…but an average student can learn SketchUp tools in 10 classes say 1class every 2days… so about 20days… And to become proficient, i don’t think anyone can answer this question… It depends on person how much they practice…

While AutoCAD is better suited to 2D & 3D mechanical, civil, and architectural engineering designs, SketchUp is great for 3D modelling and basic rendering of objects. SketchUp is easier to use, and far less fussy than AutoCAD, however the latter offers superior rendering ability.

After comparing Vray vs Lumion, it was clear that Lumion is the better choice for us when doing full renderings. However, we won’t completely ditch Vray. It can still be used for things that have no textures or specialty lighting, so we may use it for quick studies like clay massing or simple models.

If I judge which is better for architectural design, the winner is SketchUp. If I judge which is better for video game character modeling and animation, 3D movie effects, etc., Blender is the winner.

Sketchup has a very poor user interface, its tools are quite lacking, and attempting to make anything using curves is simple atrocious. The only justifiable use of Sketchup is for architecture. it’s not onshape.
