Despite having seen his God-like powers, both Nora and Yato state that Father is human. Meaning, Yato knows that, while his abilities might be God-like, he’s not a God. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about Divine Possession and how it works. We have only seen one (goofy) case from when Yato possessed Hiyori.

As for Yato, well, I think it’s obvious that he is a fictional character based on the images of the gods of war in Japanese mythology. Yato, the god of calamity, is a minor deity apart from the Seven Lucky Gods.

After finding out the true story about the death of her previous family of Shinki, Bishamon eventually lets go of her vengeance against Yato. Furthermore, she slowly begins to be able to accept him as her ally. Even after being a Goddess of Fortune and being able to reincarnate after dying.

He is an obscure god who considers himself a God of Fortune / Happiness and War, he has been labeled a God of Calamity and Depression in the past. Yato’s dream is to become a famous god, whom everyone worships.

Yato is a Shinto God with aspirations of becoming well-known and worshipped throughout Japan and is the main protagonist of Noragami.

He usually charges five yen (about five cents in U.S. currency), which is what Japanese people usually give when praying at a shrine. Yato was gullible and often wasted his money on scams and good-luck charms that allegedly bring happiness. As he “stopped” being a god of calamity due to his dislike of violence, he is forgotten by most humans.
