Americans have long opted to sing along with recorded music in public bars or larger venues. But now, Asian-style karaoke is becoming more popular in the U.S. It’s a Thursday night in downtown Denver, Colorado, and the city’s newest karaoke bar is heating up. This is private-suite karaoke, called Voicebox.

While karaoke is popular in the United States, it is ten times more popular in Asian countries. In particular, Japan and the Philippines are two huge karaoke hotspots.

A pub session (seisiún in Irish; seisean in Scottish Gaelic; seshoon in Manx Gaelic) is performing music in the setting of a local pub, in which the music-making is intermingled with the consumption of ale, stout, and beer and conversation.

From Monday 17 May, pubs can host live performances and business events with a cap on attendance. For indoors, this is expected to be 1,000 people or 50% of a venue’s capacity – whichever is lower – while for outdoors, this can be 4,000 people or 50% of capacity, again whichever is lower and events should be ticketed.
