Volume is the quantity of three-dimensional space enclosed by a closed surface, for example, the space that a substance (solid, liquid, gas, or plasma) or shape occupies or contains. Volume is often quantified numerically using the SI derived unit, the cubic metre.

Size is a measurement or amount of a person or thing. An example of size is a medium dress. An example of size is a four feet tall, two feet wide dresser. An example of size is a six feet tall man with a 36-inch waist.

partition. The main difference between a storage volume and partition is the type of disk used. A volume is created on a dynamic disk — a logical structure that can span multiple physical disks — while a partition is created on a basic disk. A volume is also more flexible than a partition.

Simple Volume VS Primary Partition The simple volume is dynamic storage which functions as a primary partition in Windows NT 4.0 and its older versions, can only be created on a dynamic disk. Hence, simple volumes are based on dynamic disk while primary partitions are based on basic disk.

Simple volumes are the dynamic-disk equivalent of the primary partitions and logical drives found on basic disks. You can increase the size of a simple volume to include unallocated space on the same disk or on a different disk. The volume must be unformatted or formatted by using NTFS.

In Disk Management, select and hold (or right-click) each volume on the dynamic disk you want to convert to a basic disk, and then click Delete Volume. When all volumes on the disk have been deleted, right-click the disk, and then click Convert to Basic Disk.

Way 1. Change partition to primary using Disk Management [DATA LOSS]

1. Enter Disk Management, right click the logical partition and choose Delete Volume.
2. You’ll be prompted that all data on this partition will be erased, click Yes to continue.
3. As mentioned above, logical partition is on extended partition.

How to Restore Files from Dynamic Disk?

1. Download the software and install it on your computer.
2. Now, run the Remo application.
3. From the main screen select the option Recover Partition to recover lost files from Dynamic Disk.
4. Select the Dynamic Disk from the listed storage drives and click on scan.

A spanned volume combines areas of unallocated space from multiple disks into one logical volume, allowing you to more efficiently use all of the space and all the drive letters on a multiple-disk system. A striped volume is created by combining areas of free space on two or more disks into one logical volume.
